Can We Change

Barack Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active in raising their children.

"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.

Reminding the congregation of his firsthand experience growing up without a father, Obama said he was lucky to have loving grandparents who helped his mother. He got support, second chances and scholarships that helped him get an education. Obama's father left when he was 2.

"A lot of children don't get those chances. There is no margin for error in their lives," said Obama, an Illinois senator.

"I resolved many years ago that it was my obligation to break the cycle — that if I could be anything in life, I would be a good father to my girls," added Obama, whose daughters, Sasha and Malia, and his wife, Michelle, watched from the audience.

Obama's appearance at the Apostolic Church of God was his first address to a church since he ended his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ, where he had worshipped for 20 years, following inflammatory remarks there by his former longtime pastor and others.

Obama frequently emphasized the importance of God in his life and ended the speech by asking the congregation to "Pray for me. Pray for Michelle."

Obama often speaks about the importance of parental involvement. In Washington, he's sponsoring legislation to get more child support money to children by offering a tax credit for fathers who pay support, more efficient collection and penalties for fathers who don't meet their obligations.

The issue adds to his family values credentials and lets voters see him delivering a stern message to black voters.

"We can't simply write these problems off to past injustices," Obama said to applause Sunday. "Those injustices are real. There's a reason our families are in disrepair, and some of it has to do with a tragic history, but we can't keep using that as an excuse."

Obama urged black parents to demand the best from themselves and their children.

"Any fool can have a child. That doesn't make you a father," he said. "It's the courage to raise a child that makes you a father."

He compared helping children succeed to his own presidential campaign and early comments from black voters who said they liked him but didn't think a black man could ever be elected president. He said they were admitting defeat before the competition had even begun.

"That was when I wasn't black enough. Now I'm too black," he said in a joking aside.

He said parents who proudly tell him their child gets great grades, all B's, should encourage them even more.

"All B's? Is that the highest grade?" Obama said. "It's great that you can get a B, but you can get a better grade. It's great that you've got a job, but you can get a better job."

One Man's Opinion

One Man’s Opinion About Sears

Word of caution – Buyer Beware

Sears clothing is of poor quality just recycled K Mart castoffs

Sales Prices are bogus…30%, 40%, 50% and 70% off are from retail and do not represent prices that items were ever sold at. In other words some sales raise prices.

Sears Auto Centers are owned by individuals (franchised) who could care less about what Sears service use to be.

Do you know that there are only four (4) register systems in the whole store? And if a cashier needs a manager to approve a price discrepancy, refund or error it can take as long as twenty (20)
Minuets to find one…only one (1) is on duty anyway. Bring a lunch or snack.

Major appliances are so shoddy that they have had too open clearance centers so they can reach
A larger segment of unsuspecting new customers…Look at it this way, those products were damaged in transit, or on delivery, deemed not to standard by SEARS in the first place or rejected by the original buyer.

Same pricing policy on sales. Note… all Kenmore products have two (2) model #’s next week it will be advertised for lower and the Price Guarantee will not be honored.

Customer Service is a call center so when that sales associate tells you anything you may never seem him again. Protection Agreements are the main thing you will hear about…did you know that SEARS mandates employees to sell up to 9.3% of their total sales as Protection Agreements, Or they can and will be terminated? Employee’s that have been with them for decades!!!! And let’s not forget The Sears Card which needs to be appx. 15% of all customer sales. Upping SEARS’s profit, min. Int. rate 19.24% and up to 32%.

Service on tools, appliances etc. is a total farce…SEARS techs are those small local guy’s you stayed away from because you wanted someone you could count on. Prayer is more effective if something breaks.

And then Imagine working at SEARS for years making it the giant it once was, and seeing your career nitpicked and you driven out!!! And how about your vested retirement plan being swallowed up because SEARS is now SEARS HOLDING CO. What do you call a company that passes on a 100% increase in Healthcare cost to it’s mostly minimum wage workforce? After posting a 198 million dollar profit that year? And what about the work conditions for its employees? SEARS does not have air conditioning…never has, temperatures reach 3 figures inside. Fear and threats are the management techniques used there. One male manager was found to be having a sexual tryst with a male employee who was just over 18 years old. Sexual and racial harassment are the rule. Ask any employee there of the 100+ employees they have how long they have been there…most are a year or less. So how can they have your long term care in mind knowing the odds are against them even being there?

Shop SEARS if you want to…Your nightmare is waiting

If My Mind Stays On GOD...

Journaling - A Form of Meditative Worship
Journaling can be a form of worship. In solitude, we can explore the blessing of writing our hearts to God. We don't have to be professional writers, or even good writers - it's all about the passion for God in our hearts. Journals and letters are powerful tools for recording thoughts, prayers, fears and miracles in our lives. Writing our hearts to God is a fantastic compliment to our daily devotionals with Him.
Journaling - Seek God and Hear His Whispers
Journaling typically works best in a quiet place. Find a daily retreat and explore the power of meditative prayer and writing in your life. Learn to seek God's face during your alone times with Him. Through writing, learn to hear God's whispers in your life…

Reflect…

Who are you?

What is your background?

What experiences brought you to this time and place in your life?

Release…

What life changing mistakes have you made?

Are there any buried mistakes in your life that still hold you back?

Have you released your mistakes to God, so you can experience His true blessings for your life?

Surrender…

What event or series of events in your life brought you to your knees?

Where did you focus your thoughts and efforts during crisis?

When did you turn it all over to God?

Praise…

What victories have you experienced in your life?

What blessings has God brought your way?

Think about God's role in your life, and give Him thanks for all you have?

What Was Once New...Remains Same Old Stuff Again

It would be nice to say that mankind had made tremendous strides in improving the Human Condition...But we have not. We have decided to once again to shy away from the Solution and to live in the problem. Our leaders worldwide have shunned their duties and responsibilities and have let murder, hunger and apathy be the rule.

We The People have chosen to ignore our duties to sacrifice for the better good of all, in favor of personal comfort. Yet the price we pay becomes higher each day.

We all have seen the increase in lawlessness and the trampling of human rights as well as the stepping on the human spirit.,And once again we stand still and watch.

We have ignored the Solution to life.

I have seen the hopelesness in the eyes of the homeless, the weariness in the aged, the blank look in the young and still we do not call on the Solution.

Heed and take comfort in the fact that many thing's appear on the Horizon for GOD will let us take our path and block us not. For in His time He shall bring us back to him and we will surely see his way is The Solution and The Light.

Are You Doing Your Part?

Causes of Poverty

Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined.
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
